Blue Eagles cruise against Tamaraws for first victory

In a rematch of last year’s semifinal foes, the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles managed to notch another victory against the FEU Tamaraws 25-14, 25-19, 25-20 to win their first outing in the opening day of UAAP Men’s Volleyball.

Last year’s MVP and Rookie of the Year Marck Espejo played another splendid outing leading all scorers with 15 markers. Helping the Eagles in the dismantling victory on the offensive end was Rex Intal who poured in 12.

FEU built an early 6-3 lead in the opening set but an early Ateneo timeout triggered a 9-0 run for the Season 76 bridesmaid finishers to eventually cruise and build a big separation to end the first set.

The Tamaraws adjusted to the pace and managed to make the game close during the second canto. A flurry of lead changes was displayed but the duo of Espejo and Intal anchored Ateneo’s late set rally to surge ahead for a commanding 2-0 lead.

Looking to close the game early, the Blue Eagles led the entire third set with their floor and net defense forcing the Tamaraws to several errors. Team Captain Ysmael Marasigan also chipped in points during the third set to help Ateneo win their first game of the season.

ADMU had more attacks than FEU, 38-17 and scored more on service aces, 13-5. Up next for the Eagles is Adamson, which dropped its opening game earlier while the Tamaraws look to bounce back against NU. Both games will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at the San Juan Arena.
