Beach Volleyball Playoffs: DLSU advances to the finals as they crush Adamson’s hopes for a finals repeat

With the loss of Shiela Pineda, it was unsure how Adamson would fare at this year’s UAAP77 Beach Volleyball Tournament. They were able to prove doubters wrong when they were able to trounce NU, a team they lost to during the elimination round, to take the final playoff spot and keep their season alive. Their biggest challenge would come as they had to go up against a DLSU team whose only loss came against a UST squad, who was now waiting in the finals with a thrice-to-beat advantage.

Alas, this would be as far as Adamson’s run would go, as they would lose to a fresh DLSU squad, 21 – 11, and 21 – 14. Despite the score differential, you could tell that Adamson would not go down without a fight. With the score at 15 – 6 at the waning moments of the 1st set, Len Cortel would raise 1 finger to her partner, Amanda Villanueva, signaling that they needed to make 1 stop, 1 play, 1 point, just to cut the deficit and bring them closer to their opponent. But it would be for naught, for they would eventually fall to a mighty DLSU squad.

With this win, DLSU earns the right to play against UST, the team that was able to sweep the elimination round and earn a thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals.

Aggregate score:

DLSU: 42

ADU: 25
