Ateneo Lady Paddlers manage to jump out of last place, end the season 1-11


Ending the first round with a 0-6 slate, the Lady Paddlers from Ateneo would finally get a win in the second round of eliminations. The Lady Paddlers ended the season in fifth place with a 1-11 record.

ADMU vs UP (0-7)

In the opening match, singles players, Dominique Reyes and Jane dela Cruz would lose both their matches against the Lady Maroons. The doubles tandem of Dominique Dizon and Lexine Uy would avenge their teammates losses with a 3-0 win. The third singles match featured 4th year player, Allyssa Balanzat, winning the first set, but would lose momentum and drop the next three sets for the Lady Paddlers.

ADMU vs UST (0-8)

Ateneo continued their second round campaign against the UST Tigresses. Jane dela Cruz opened Ateneo’s second match on a high note, defeating UST’s Katrina Tempiatura, 3-1. The next 3 matches, however would go to the ladies from España. Dominique Dizon lost 1-3, the duo of Kathrina Cruz and Dominique Reyes bowed out against their counterparts Rizza Darlucio and Maria Nacasabog, 1-3. Allyssa Balanzat would force a 5th set against UST’s V Lopeba, but would fall short, 2-3.

ADMU vs AdU (1-8)

Unlike their first round meeting against Adamson, Ateneo would not falter and would finally taste victory. Lexine Uy paced the Lady Paddlers, routing AdU’s Alyssa Santiago in four sets, giving Ateneo the 1-0 advantage. The second singles match showcased Jane dela Cruz’s prowess, scoring 11-5, 11-8, and 11-5 in 3 sets. The doubles combo of Allysa Balanzat and Dominique Dizon, stumbled in the first set of their match, but would rally and dominate in the next three sets, 11-7, 11-6, and 11-6.

ADMU vs DLSU (1-9)

Ending the first day with a win, the Katipunan would begin the second day against powerhouse La Salle. The DLSU Lady Paddlers would do quick work against the ADMU Lady Paddlers, winning 3-0 in the singles matches. Doubles partners Lexine Uy and Dominique Dizon would have a heated battle against DLSU’s Darianne Talento and Marcelle Galera. The partners from Ateneo would grab the first two sets, but would lose momentum and give-up the next three.

ADMU vs FEU (1-10)

In similar fashion to their encounter with La Salle, Ateneo would not get a single match win, 3-1, 3-2, and 3-0. Ateneo, however performed better overall.

ADMU vs NU (1-11)

Like their first round meeting against the National University Lady Bulldogs, Ateneo would come up short. The Lady Paddlers would give up the first two matches to NU. The duo of Dominique Dizon and Allyssa Balanzat, try to rally their team by winning the doubles competition, 3-1. Ateneo’s comeback hopes would be, once again, spoiled in the third singles match.
