Amidst absence, Amer mentoring San Beda backcourt

Watching from the sidelines while still recovering from a dislocated shoulder injury, Baser Amer assumed the role of mentoring his fellow backcourt players to help in his own possible ways.

With his vast experience in playing the quarterbacking role, the San Beda Point Guard said he is in charge of giving the younger backcourt players pointers and reminders to carry along the game.

“Yung mga point guard, kasi nga hindi ako nakakalaro, ako na ang nagaasikaso sa kanila. Tinuturuan ko sila, binibigyan ko sila ng tips,” Amer said after the Red Lions edged the Perpetual Altas, 83-81.

“Kailangan lang nila maging confident and competitive every game.”

Among those who stepped up in the crucial affair was Ranbill Tongco, who finished with 10 points, while Dan Sara and Amiel Soberano added 9 combined.

Art Dela Cruz still topscored for the Red Lions with 25 points, 17 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Amer stressed the importance of a group working collectively to succeed even with his absence.

“Ang pinakamaganda sa team namin, nagtutulungan talaga lahat. Walang individual players. Lahat kayang mag-contribute,” he said, adding the team should be more consistent towards the end of the game.

“Consistency pa (ang kailangan) dahil lamang na siguro kami ng 8 or 10 points, pero nahabol pa.”

He remains positive that he can return this season but, as of now, he is still contributing to the team even on the sidelines.
