Alapag unretires, to join Meralco after 3-team trade

Jimmy Alapag will be coming out of retirement in the PBA and is set to join one of MVP’s three teams, the Meralco Bolts, after a three-team deal Friday.

In the trade, Alapag will be shipped from Talk ‘N Text to Blackwater for Larry Rodriguez. The Elite then sends Alapag, who has been practicing for the national team lately, to the Bolts for veteran point guard Mike Cortez and big man James Sena.

Alapag retired from pro ball after the 2015 Philippine Cup, although has been actively playing hoops since that point.

He joined the 2015 PBA All-Star Game and is now part of Tab Baldwin’s Gilas Pilipinas 3 pool.

The deal sees Blackwater getting a young big man in Sena, and a creator in Cortez which they badly missed after dealing Brian Heruela to Barako Bull earlier this year.

Meralco gets one of the league’s best point guards of all time who can still impact the game offensively.

The Tropang Texters get Rodriguez, who will likely see minutes off the bench as the flagship MVP team has the likes of Jay Washington, Ranidel de Ocampo, Danny Seigle, and Harvey Carey in the rotation, unless the team decides to use him as a trade kicker for future deals.
