Adamson University booked its third straight victory after outlasting University of the East

Adamson University booked its third straight victory after outlasting University of the East, 57-49 Thursday in the UAAP Season 78 women’s basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym.

The Lady Falcons opened the game on an 8-2 run, attacking the interior several times to get easy baskets. But the Lady Warriors quickly erased the deficit as Chery Ano-os found her offensive rhythm early, as UE tied it at eight apiece.

That set the tone for what would be the general nip-and-tuck pace of the game. Adamson led for most of the way, leaning on baskets inside the paint to create more separation.

Baskets by Jamie Alcoy and Princess Cochico made it 32-23 halfway in the third quarter, before Ano-os and Love Joy Sto. Domingo pulled UE within, 30-34.

But Cochico and Ysabelle Diaz helped the Lady Falcons close the quarter strong to take a 39-31 heading into the final chapter.

The Lady Warriors then went on a trapping defense to open the fourth quarter, while Eunique Chan pounded the paint for easy baskets to wile UE back to the game, 38-44.

But the San Marcelino side answered with a 10-2 note highlighted by a three-point play from Janille De Castro and a triple from Myra Osano to break the game wide-open at 54-40.

Adamson never went threatened again after that point to go to 3-0 in the team standings, joining National University on top of the regular season.

The Recto crew meanwhile suffered its second straight setback, settling for a 1-2 slate after three games.

Cochico spearheaded the balanced attack for the Lady Falcons, finishing with a near triple-double of 9 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Osano and De Castro added 12 and 10 points respectively. Ano-os topscored for UE with her 18 points, to go along with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 7 steals.
