Adamson dispatches Green Spikers to share top spot

The Falcons made it seven straight with another quick finish over the struggling DLSU Green Spikers in a 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 win at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Net defense was on full display for the Falcons in the opening set anchored by JC David as they denied DLSU’s spikers. La Salle, who played without captain Red Christensen, came up short as they were forced to errors late.

In the third set, La Salle managed to hang on and even tie the score, but Jerome Sarmiento and Michael Sudaria delivered the punching spikes that kept the Green Spikers at bay. With the errors still not favoring DLSU and Adamson’s offense working in the clutch, the Falcons sealed the match with enough firepower for their seventh win.

With the victory, the Falcons tied the NU Bulldogs at the top spot of the Men’s volleyball tournament with a 7-1 record. On the other hand, La Salle is still slumping, now with a 1-7 slate.

Sudaria led the offense for Adamson with 15 points including two blocks. In addition, David and Sarmiento added 10 apiece. As for the losing DLSU squad, Ralph Calasin and Cris Dumago scored 11 each.

Both teams had eight blocks in the game but Adamson scored more in terms of service aces, 4-1. It was the errors that haunted La Salle, 26-21, which served as a hindrance in claiming their second victory.

Adamson looks to extend its win streak to eight against Ateneo on Sunday while La Salle seeks its second win against UE. Both games will be played at the San Juan Arena.
